Lara is the Children's Ministry Director of Calvary Chapel Windsor.

She has been serving in her current role since April of 2026.

I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, raised in the Mormon church. As a teenager, I always had quiet doubts about what I was being taught, and as I got older those doubts became harder to ignore. When I was nineteen, during a Mormon class, I had an encounter that changed everything. The room began to go dark, my hearing and vision faded, and I felt an unmistakable presence of evil. I was frozen while everyone around me seemed unaware. In that moment I called out to Jesus, and immediately the presence lifted and I was free. I knew then that the Mormon church was false, and by the time I was twenty-one I had walked away for good.

I have had a heart for children my entire life. I started babysitting at twelve for families from church, helped raise infant cousins from birth when I was just seventeen, and ran an in-home daycare after finishing high school, caring for up to ten children at a time, including my own cousins and eventually my firstborn. Children have never been just a job to me; they have always been a calling.

I first met my husband Justin when we were teenagers working together at a movie theater. We dated briefly before going our separate ways, and then reconnected eighteen years later, both having walked through hard seasons of our own. When we found each other again, we knew the connection was still there. We committed to building our relationship with God as our foundation, with the intention of marriage for life. In 2019 we chose to leave Las Vegas and plant roots in Colorado, where we would grow our family and build something intentional and lasting. We are now blessed with four children.

When we moved to Windsor, Justin searched for a biblical church nearby and found Calvary Chapel Windsor. We quickly felt at home in this body of believers. I began serving in Children's Ministry in 2021 and have never looked back. In September 2023 I transitioned to homeschooling our children full time, and the two callings have only deepened each other.

Every week I get to come alongside families and help children encounter the living God, the same Jesus who answered a frightened nineteen-year-old girl in a dark room in Las Vegas.
